1

Step 1

Start with title, description, and canonical URL. These also feed the Google snippet.

2

Step 2

Add a 1200×630 image

Use an absolute HTTPS image URL. Preview it on X, Facebook, and LinkedIn before you publish.

3

Step 3

Copy the HTML

Paste the tags into your head. Keep og:title aligned with the visible page title.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an OG image be?

1200×630 pixels is the standard. Keep the file under 8 MB and use a real HTTPS URL, not a relative path.

Is Twitter Card the same as Open Graph?

They overlap. Twitter/X can fall back to OG tags, but twitter:card and twitter:image give you more control.

Why is my old image still showing?

Social platforms cache previews. After you update tags, use each platform’s debugger to refresh the card.

Do OG tags help Google rankings?

Not directly. They improve click-through from social and chat apps, which can send qualified traffic.
